PA Alpha Delta alumni establish the Temple Fund and Paul Lucas Scholarship

The PA Alpha Delta House Corporation has recently approved a $25,000 disbursement from accrued interest to the Pi Lambda Phi Educational Foundation to endow a Temple Restricted Fund. The benefits of creating a restricted fund are that all disbursements will solely benefit the PA Alpha Delta chapter, and are subject to recommendation and approval of the Alumni Association and House Corporation.

Because the Educational Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, contributions to the Temple Fund are tax-deductible and qualify for programs that your company may offer, like matching contributions.

Goals of the Temple Fund

  • Establish a non-profit, tax-advantaged fund benefitting the PA Alpha Delta Chapter.
  • Create an annual PA Alpha Delta scholarship honoring the memory of Brother Paul Lucas ’94.
  • Allow for discretionary grants to the chapter for other purposes that fall within Foundation tax guidelines, as funds allow.
  • Grow principle through fundraising.

Honoring the memory of Paul Lucas ’94 with an annual scholarship

Paul Lucas ’94 passed into the Chapter Eternal on August 16, 2025 after years of battling cancer and other complications. Paul was a beloved brother, known by generations of Pi Lams because he was ever-present at Pi Lam and Temple activities.

In 35 years he never missed a Kovner Banquet, and he was always “working the room” to make an effort to share time (and drinks) with everyone there. Paul truly lived our motto, “not four years, but a lifetime.”

Paul served as Marshal and Rex, and received the Kovner Memorial Award in 1992. He was a key leader in re-establishing the chapter in 2007. In 2025, Paul was posthumously awarded the Pi Lambda Phi Council Key.

There are few who had Paul’s dedication to Pi Lambda Phi. Paul had a close-knit group of brothers, sorority friends, and Temple classmates who he made great effort to stay in touch with. He will be remembered fondly by all of us who had the good fortune of knowing him.

How scholarship recipients will be selected

The scholarship will be managed through the Educational Foundation’s annual selection process. PA Alpha Delta volunteers will review candidates and decide the recipients.

The initial scholarship will be $1,000, but this amount, or number of recipients could change based on fundraising efforts.

Support the Temple Fund

Please help us build the Temple Fund to support future generations of brothers of “The House That Leads.” When you make a donation, make sure to select “Temple Fund” in step 2 when you see the option, “I’d like to support.”
