Undergrads get unsolicited shoutout from a respected Temple professor

Professor Scott Gratson recently wrote a glowing endorsement of the PA Alpha Delta chapter and the character of the brothers that he shared with Temple’s Greek Advisors. More than just an “atta boy” the message was a list of the chapter’s volunteer efforts and accomplishments.

Professor Gratson has been in higher education for 33 years and has a long and distinguished title, Professor of Instruction in Communication and Social Influence and Director of Communication Studies and Klein College Undergraduate Studies

Highlights of his email to Temple Administration:

“I wanted to write to you to notify you of the work that the men of Pi Lam have been doing with me on campus. I have known several Pi  Lam Temple graduates, including my dear friends Ajay Patel and Malcolm Kenyatta, outstanding examples of what Temple’s chapter creates. I am so very proud that these men were my students.”

The current brothers are doing their best to carry on in these noble traditions. I am also certain that everyone is aware that the mission of an educational institution is to teach people to learn, become better decision makers, make hard choices at young adult ages, and be accountable for their actions with the promise of future improvement and more mature understanding. That is exactly the mission of higher education: to help people grow. I have seen these brothers do exactly that over these past years.

They have presented research on sexual assault awareness at Temple’s Undergraduate Research Symposium and they have assisted my college with transfer and academic awareness programs.

Currently, two brothers, including a new member, are helping me research the art and architectural historical connection between their mid to late nineteenth century brownstone house and its association with our neighbors in North Philadelphia. They are already planning on designing a room in their chapter house specifically dedicated to alumni.

In the middle of hectic midterms, Pi Lam opted to arrive at my college on an early Saturday morning to meet and greet new prospective students. They participated to personally and happily meet new prospective students, and to represent their chapter with aplomb. They did so selflessly of their own accord, and enjoyed the process.

I have truly enjoyed working alongside the members of Pi Lam’s Temple Chapter. They are part of a legacy of unique and engaged individuals, all of whom have done their part to ensure that the mission of ending prejudice continues in a sprit of brotherhood and inclusion.”

Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life, Roxana Aguilar replied, “I love to hear the good things that our chapters do for the community. It is wonderful to hear that the chapter has kept a good relationship with you and continue to participate in different initiatives.”

An ally on the faculty

Thank you Professor Gratson for shining a positive light on Pi Lambda Phi. Our brothers bleed both purple and gold and cherry and white. T for Temple U!

Snaps to our undergraduate brothers for doing so much to give back to the Temple community! Keep up the great work.
